We are a caring group of people in love with Jesus, drawn mainly from Greenhill estate and the surrounding town of Coalville. Most of those attending are retired and give generously of their time for the mission of the church.
Our Sunday services are informal and open to a variety of styles.
There are fortnightly Bible study and prayer meetings.
The church has a mission to those on the margin of society and are experienced at dealing with a range of challenges coming our way. We currently serve the community through the distribution of food bags, financial assistance, emotional and spiritual support. It is always a privilege to be able to offer prayer with someone who is struggling with life. There is a Friday Lunch Break attended by many who come to our food bank and advice sessions.

We are a small church with a big heart set in the centre of the Greenhill Estate, a large housing estate comprising of a mix of social and private housing on the edge of the town of Coalville. We are a flexible, friendly ‘have a go’ church, non-judgmental with a desire to bless one another and the community we serve. Broken lives have experienced the healing power of Jesus. We enjoy worshipping, praying and looking at the Bible together. Our congregation which numbers around 25 to 30 on a normal Sunday morning enjoys worshipping God in a relaxed and informal manner.
The Church
We are a caring group of people in love with Jesus drawn, mainly from Greenhill estate and the surrounding town of Coalville. Most of those attending are retired and give generously of their time for the mission of the church.
The church is blessed by a strong leadership team who take responsibility for various aspects of church life.
Our Sunday services are informal and open to a variety of styles from Celtic to charismatic. At different times the church has been well served by visiting preachers from a variety of backgrounds. The fellowship has a ‘have a go’ attitude.
There are weekly opportunities for Bible study and prayer with a number of people who are deeply committed to this.
We see ourselves as a church with a mission to those on the margins of society from homelessness and drug abuse, mental health issues; we are experienced at dealing with a range of challenges coming our way. We currently serve the community through the distribution of food bags and referrals to the local Trussel Trust foodbank, financial assistance (although this is quite limited) and emotional and spiritual support. It is always a privilege to be able to offer prayer with someone who is struggling with life, and we see this as a priority in our mission. Many lives have been touched in a positive way through this ministry and it is seen as a vital part of what we are as a church.
The church building is in reasonable repair and there is a manse situated not far from the church building.
We have good working relationships with the other churches in the town and Heartland Youth For Christ hold a weekly Youth Café on our premises. We are in membership with the Baptist Union and the East Midlands Baptist Association and support both BMS and Home Mission, Youth for Christ, Coalville Churches Together and Hope 67 debt advice and support.
The Community
Coalville is in the heart of the former Midlands Coalfields and since the mines closed has struggled to recover from the loss of well-paid jobs. It is currently seeing a large number of new houses being built. In the surrounding area many new distribution centres have been started. The town is near M1 and M42 motorways.
Greenhill Estate is, mainly white British with a mix of private and social housing. There is a great deal of poverty and social needs on the estate with levels of unemployment higher than the surrounding area. The church partners with the local statutory agencies in meeting the needs of the community and has been financially support by them.
Our Vision
We long to grow in walking with Jesus, growing with Him in our love for those who are lost both materially and spiritually through worship and prayer.
Our fellowship is aware of its limitations but is doing all it can to be a church which is real and relevant to the community in which we are placed. The longing for the church to build upon the work it has developed in the community and to be light to many in need.
Ministry
We are therefore seeking a visionary person with a missional heart, longing to build up the church. Someone who will share our heart for the community and who has a strong desire to work amongst families and the marginalised whilst helping us to sharpen our vision as together we strive to be a beacon of light as we reach out into the darkness offering love, care, and spiritual support.
This is a full time post. A manse can be provided and there is a church office available for Ministers/Pastoral use. We are looking for an accredited minister however someone sympathetic to Baptist tradition will be considered.
